What is a β€œStraw-Death?

"Straw-death" was a term used by the Norse people to describe the act of dying peacefully in one's bed.

Unlike the valorized deaths in battle, "straw-death" was often seen as a less honorable end. This distinction reflected the Viking culture's emphasis on heroic deeds and warrior prowess.

So why did we name our blog β€œStraw-Death?”

Where did we get this idea from for our blog?

We came up with the idea for β€œStraw-Death” while meditating on the meaning of the word while sitting alongside a bonfire.

As a modern Pagans, we’re not likely to die in battle.

We don’t anticipate our afterlives being welcomed into the halls of Valhalla.

So what lies ahead for us?

  • We could have a connection with the earth, the very place where we will ultimately rest.

    How do we do that?

  • We're interested in being stewards of the land of Deeply Rooted Church!

    What does that look like?

  • It looks like tending to the land, living in as much harmony as we can, and building safe community space for ALL Pagans and their allies.

    And where does that leave you?

  • With any luck, a modern "Straw-Death" which includes contributing to the legacy of Deeply Rooted Church with the help of others.
